Top 2014 Wide Receivers

With Kelvin Benjamin entering the NFL draft today here is a look at the top 5 wide receivers in this years NFL Draft:

1. Sammy Watkins, Clemson: Watkins has elite speed and quickness and clearly showed his big play ability in his bowl game against Ohio St. He plays bigger and stronger than his size of 6'1 205. He breaks arm tackles and has great short area bursts. He has excellent hands and rarely loses concentration. I have him as a top 10 talent in this years draft.

2. Marquise Lee, Southern Cal: Lee like Watkins is extremely explosive, so much so that he was up for the Heisman at wide receiver a year ago. No Heisman was won by a wide receiver since 1991 by Desmond Howard. Lee still had a productive season this year even with the coaching carousel that went on and he also dealt with a knee injury throughout the season. Lee is an above average route runner with ability to create separation on short and deep throws. Both he and Watkins are most dangerous after the catch. Top 15 talent.

3. Mike Evans, Texas A&M: Mike Evans is a big man at 6'4 220 pounds and does a great job using his size. He has a tendency to disappear sometimes during games which is why he isn't higher. He doesn't possess great straight line speed or quickness to create separation but he is able to use his size to win most contested catch battles. He is comparable to Vincent Jackson size wise and has the potential to be the same type of player. Top 20 talent

4. Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt: Matthews possesses a great work ethic and around the league is a top 10 wide out in this years draft. I think he has the ability to go in the late first round. We saw his ability in his final bowl game and is the all time leading receiver in SEC history. He struggles a bit with separation but has great hands and rarely drops a pass. As a bigger WR he gets in and out of his breaks well and has decent top end speed.

5. Odell Beckham Jr., LSU: Beckham could be a late riser depending on his combine results. Beckham has great short area quickness and his extremely difficult to jam on the line of scrimmage. He has the ability to make difficult catches look easy. He possesses average top end speed and his big play ability isn't their as it is for the top two receivers in this class. He wasn't a big redzone target while at LSU catching just 4 total TDs in his two full seasons with the Tigers.
