Top 2014 Runningbacks

Here is Sullysports current list of the top running backs for the 2014 NFL Draft.

1. Carlos Hyde, Ohio St.: In a class of undersized every down running backs Carlos Hyde rises to the top. He is a bit heavy for his 5'11 frame at almost 240 pounds but still contains above average acceleration. His top end speed is average and has average quickness but he is able to run through tackles and does make pretty good jump cuts. He isn't afraid to mix it up in pass protection, and has above average hands when trying to make plays in the passing game.

2. Lache Seastrunk, Baylor: Lache on first glance is your typical looking scat back with great speed and acceleration, but he isn't used in the passing game very often if at all. In fact in 2013 he didn't have a single reception and he only had 9 in 2012. Seastrunk can hit a seem in the run game and take off into the 2nd level and his running style reminds me a lot of last years first running back selected Giovanni Bernard. Needs to work on his blitz pick up to be used as a 3rd down back. He tends to dance around to find a homerun a-la Chris Johnson of the Titans and that can cause for negative run plays.

3. Andre Williams, Boston College: This to me will be a 3rd round steal. For the value you get in the 3rd round he could be an every down starting back. He has above average hands out of the backfield, above average speed and size for the position and has shown production in major games. Andre Williams is a physical runner who not only can run through tackles but also has shown the ability to break away.

4. Bishop Sankey, Washington: Sankey was an absolute work horse this season for the Huskies and he carried them to a lot of wins. Sankey is a physical runner with home run speed. The knock is the amount of carries they put on this 200 pound back. He has trouble breaking through tackles, and dances in the hole. Needs to add some bulk to become an every down back in the NFL.

5. Rajion Neal, Tennessee: I think Neal might be the biggest sleeper in this draft at RB. He has the average size of an NFL running back but top echelon speed. His biggest asset is his versatility as he was used at WR often while at Tennessee. He has very good hands and good ability as a route runner. For a speed back he doesn't dance in the whole, he is a patient runner who looks to hit the hole hard. His biggest knock however are durability concerns and his balance and power running come into question. Look for Neal to be a 3rd or 4th round steal.
