A New Man at #1 According to One

Mel Kiper Jr. ESPN's lead draft analyst has put out his first Mock draft of the year and their are a couple surprises but one that truly sticks out.

Kiper's #1 overall draft pick is Johnny Manziel and has Tedd Bridgewater going as the 3rd quarterback selected overall. Manziel is undersized for the NFL game but compares to a Russell Wilson in and out of the pocket. Kiper feels that Manziel is the only player that seems to be a consensus top 5 selection when talking to most of the scouts around the league.

I am still not high on Manziel, I think he has some transferable talent to the league but the majority of his game still needs work. His immaturity (as seen at the Manning camp), his off the field antics are some of the none football characteristics that are red flags. On the field I feel he relies to much on jump ball passes which he was able to get away with, with Mike Evans at 6'5 he was able to get away with it.

His ability to create in the pocket and out of it his an elite trait I have not seen in a long time. He is able to keep a play going and continue moving his offense down the field. At just 205 pounds I am concerned with all of the hits he will take in the NFL. Durability will be a major concern for me as will losing. Manziel has never really been on a losing team before and that will happen his first year in the league. Another strong heisman SEC quarterback that came into the league has had a difficult time with that (Cam Newton). Manziel will be scrutinized every game for every little thing he does and it will be interesting to see how he handles the draft process.
