Top 2014 Tight End Prospects

This years class has some elite tight ends but the depth of the class isn't truly there this year. But we will see as many as five starters come out of this draft.

1. Eric Ebron, North Carolina: Ebron came into this season as a top tight end but not the best one. The 6'4 231 pound tight end is a bit undersized at the tight end position compared to some of the other guys in this class. His athleticism is by far and away elite and it is what separates him from everyone else. He is an average blocker and doesn't possess the strength to move defensive ends. Needs to work on his route running skills but is a size mismatch when lined up wide. 1st round grade

2. Jace Amaro, Texas Tech: He has the height and size to be a mismatch both on the line and off the line. He is 6'5 260 and is a smooth athletic runner. He has a chance to surpass Ebron as the top tight end of this class with a great combine effort. He needs to develop more as a blocker but has the frame and size to develop in that area. Amaro is very good after the catch and is a good route runner. He was used often in the slot at Texas Tech and learned to use his size well when going after passes. 1st round grade.

3. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Washington: Austin has great size at 6'6 265 he is your old school style tight end with new school athleticism. His biggest knock is that he doesn't always show up on game film and disappears at times. He has great hands and a good radius in which he can catch passes. He has great strength and ability to block all defensive players. He is a smooth runner but doesn't possess great speed. He compares well to Rob Gronkowski size but lacks the same competitiveness Gronk plays with. 2nd round grade.

4. C.J. Fiedorowicz, Iowa: He is your classic blocking tight end. He has below average speed, and average hands. Struggles to catch balls outside of his frame and struggles to create separation when running routes. He is an excellent blocker who would make a nice 2nd tight end for teams who tend to go with players like Ebron has their starting tight end. He is the 2nd strongest blocking tight end in this class. 3rd round grade.

5. Richard Rogers, California: Rogers went to Cal as a tight end was later moved to receiver in California's spread offense. He is a fluid runner with great size but isn't a strong blocker. Most of his time at Cal he spent split out as a wide receiver. He isn't as fast as the other tight ends in this class and doesn't possess the same athleticism. He is raw and young so there is potential for development and growth. I have him as a late 3rd round early 4th round player.
