Buccaneers Snag Their Guy

Lovie Smith and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have decided that they are a good fit. While certain language still needs to be figured out in the contract all signs point to this deal being worked out in the next 24 hours.

On Black Monday the Buccaneers decided to let go of 2nd year coach Greg Schiano. Schiano went 11-21 while in Tampa and was amid of much player scrutiny especially with former Bucs QB Josh Freeman who was released from the Bucs earlier this season. Schiano never panned out as the coach the Bucs envisioned they signed out of Rutgers. Schiano aggressive no player friendly approach seems better suited for the college game.

As for Lovie Smith he takes over a top 10 NFL defense and an offense with an intriguing running game and a young QB who had a very good rookie season. Lovie Smith supposedly has his coaching staff in place but that will remain to be seen until the contracts are agreed to.

Lovie Smith last coached a season ago for the Chicago Bears and took this season off. Smith, 55, is 81-63 in his coaching career will look to provide a winning culture which has been missing from Tampa since 2007 when they last made the playoffs.
