Salary Cap Dumping

One thing I hate about leagues with salary caps that are either keeper or dynasty is people not understand the value of the player and the value of the player with a certain contract. For example if you selected a player 4 years ago at age 28 for top running back price current #5 RB auction pricing is $53, he will gradually fall off over the course of those 4 years. Today he is 32 and projected as an back end RB2 high end RB3, that player is worth $20, thats a $32 difference and most people aren't looking to add that kind of salary to their team unless they are desperate at a position.

If you chose not to drop him or not to trade him then you have two options for Salary Dumping;

1. You can sell your player on pennies on the dollar before the season. This ensures that you open up your cap for other moves you may have to make throughout the season. To me, this is only an option if he is no longer a significant part of your team. He only plays in weeks in which you need him then I say trade him for cheap upside talent.

2. You can hold onto him and hope he has one more big year in him and that you could sell high during the season. The hope here is, is that he is still just a flex play for you now and that you can easily part with his excellent season to a team that is in desperate need for a running back. This way you might be able to get a good return on your trade.

You can always hold on to him and just pray you don't have to make any major moves and cut him at years end. But one of the biggest issues in dynasty/keeper leagues is that you may lose him for good if you cut him. The one thing to keep in mind is that if you do cut him at years end, the likelihood that he would cost you the $53 dollars you had him for the year before is ridiculous. Set a price amount you are comfortable with getting him around and no matter what you will get your man back at a discount.
