Freak Out Friday

After putting up a monster week 1 Ben Roethlesberger definitely slowed down. For the first time in his last 30 starts Big Ben failed to record a touchdown pass. The Steelers really need to develop a 3rd wide receiver in this offense or atleast get Dri Archer healthy for another dimension. Wheaton and Brown accounted for 20 targets, of Big Bens 37 throws. Heath Miller accounted for 7, that means only 3 players accounted for 73% of the passing offense, if you add in the teams best fantasy weapon, Le'Veon Bell than those four players were used 87% of the time.

Until the Steelers can develop a 3rd receiver than Big Ben isn't worth owning as a starting quarterback. In week 1 the same 4 players accounted for 71% of the offense. Markus Wheaton should be owned in all leagues though as the Steelers are continuing finding ways to get the ball in his hands.

As for the Ravens they used 12 personnel (1 running back 2 tight ends) a lot during this game. They really liked the mismatches they were creating in the redzone with Owen Daniels and Dennis Pitta. Owen Daniels benefited the most from the personnel this time around with the 2 TDs but Dennis Pitta will get his. I wouldn't worry about his 3 catches tonight he will be a top 10 tight end all year long. Torrey Smith on the other hand is getting close to panic central. I was down on Torrey Smith coming into this season because I thought Steve Smith was going to steal a lot of his targets. Without a solid a run game it takes away from the play action which takes away from Smith's opportunity on the deep balls. For now I would keep Smith on my bench until we see him finally being utilized in the offense.
