NFC South Draft Grades

Atlanta Falcons:

Rd. 1: Desmond Trufant CB: Trufant has NFL pedigree in his family who have shown him the ins and outs. He possesses great ball skills and will fit well in the Falcons style of defense.

Rd. 2: Robert Alford CB: Most drafts you go in hoping to get an immediate impact player. The Falcons landed two with their first two picks. Alford is a small school player with big time talent.

Rd. 4: Malliciah Goodman DE: I like this pick based off value and versatility. Goodman is a nice end rusher and has the size and strength to play the run. He can also be moved inside on certain packages.

Rd. 4: Levine Toilolo TE: Another solid pick. Matt Ryan gets a large red zone target in the 6'8 Toilolo. He is a bit raw at the position and will take more than a full year to truly develop but could become a special player.

Rd. 5: Stansly Maponga DE: Maponga is an undersized defensive end but flashes some potential as a pass rusher. Very inconsistent and tends to be slow off the snap.

Rd. 7: Kemal Ishmael S: He was the 2012 defensive player of then year. Has good size as a strong safety and is an above average tackler.

Rd. 7: Zeke Motta S: This is a steal for a 7th round pick. He has great size and intelligence. He lacks elite athleticism and strong play making abilities.

Rd. 7: Sean Renfree QB: Renfree was in my top 10 quarterbacks. David Cutcliffe knows how to groom smart players and he'll be a great back up for the Falcons.

Overall Grade: A-

Carolina Panthers:

Rd. 1: Star Lotulelei DT: Lotulelei was once considered the #1 pick in the draft until a medical condition was discovered back in February. This was a major need for the Panthers after being one of the worst run defenses in the league.

Rd. 2: Kawann Short DT: Using back to back picks on the same position shows just how large a need this was. The Panthers new GM Dave Gettleman comes from the Giants who believe building along the offensive and defensive lines is most important.

Rd. 4: Edmund Kugbila OG: I think his athleticism caught some by surprise. This is a potential developmental player who I think could have been drafted later.

Rd. 5: AJ Klein LB: There were better players on the board here and this wasn't a position of need.

Rd. 6: Kenjon Barner RB: They do need a pass catching threat at RB and Barber is nice value as an explosive type player late in the draft.

Overall Grade: C

New Orleans Saints:

Rd. 1: Kenny Vaccaro S: I think Jarvis Jones would have been a nice fit here as well but they couldn't go wrong. In a deep safety class Vaccaro was the best of them all.

Rd. 3: Terron Armstead OT: Steal!Steal!Steal! Might be one of my favorite players in this draft. He had a very good senior bowl practice, and his combine numbers were the best ever. Will be a pro bowler in a few years.

Rd. 3: John Jenkins DT: Jenkins is a big ole boy. 330 pounds or more and weight control will be an issue. But when his motor is going he is a impact player.

Rd. 5: Kenny Stills WR: I think he'll have immediate impact with the Saints next season.

Rd. 6: Rufus Johnson DE: He is a developmental small school kid with upside.

Overall Grade: A-

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Rd. 2: Johnathan Banks CB: Good value here as some had him as a second round pick. Buccaneers made it a point to address their secondary this off season.

Rd. 3: Mike Glennon QB: A bit of a reach since both Nassib and Barkley were still on the board. Think they could have gone elsewhere and still nabbed Glennon in the 4th.

Rd. 4: Akeem Spence DT: A good value find and adds depth to a strong position. A quick athletic defensive tackle and will be a nice rotational player.

Rd. 4: William Gholston DE: Another gifted big athlete who like Spence is to inconsistent and why they both fell to the 4th round.

Rd. 5: Steve Means DE: A reach pick on a developmental player. Bucks really wanted to address their line play and add competition.

Rd. 6: Mike James RB: Miami running backs have some pedigree in the NFL and they did trade Blount and release Ward. This will help immediate depth.

Overall Grade: B
