2014 College Guard Rankings

This years class will bring the guard position back to reality. Last years class saw two elite guards in Warmack and Cooper along with two above average players in Pugh and Long (who could become a tackle). This class will possible see one maybe two guards selected in the first round.

1. Gabe Jackson 6'4 320 MSST SR.: Jackson is an excellent run blocker and with that ability alone could be a late first round pick. It is his pass protection skills that need to improve his senior year to guarantee a day 1 selection.

2. David Yankey 6'5 301 Stanford JR: Yankey is a bit undersized as an interior lineman but Stanford will move him to guard after spending last season at tackle. He does everything well but I'll be interested to see how he handles the size the of the interior defensive lineman. That will determine if he is a day 1 or day 2 guard.

3. Anthony Steen 6'3 303 Alabama SR: Alabama is consistently pumping out offensive lineman into the NFL and Steen will be no different. He had a good season last year but went relatively unnoticed with Warmack, Jones and Fluker being on that dominant line. Steen is an above average pass protector and run blocker.

4. Cyril Richardson 6'5 335 Baylor JR: Richardson and Jackson are very similar and the reason Richardson is lower is because he has yet to show his experience at guard. He played admirably last year at tackle and will move back inside this season. If he shows success his name could rise up this list.

5. Xavier Su'a-Filo 6'4 295 UCLA JR: He was Jonathan Franklin go to run blocker and he is a bit more mature than most juniors after doing a two year mission after his freshman year. He is a guard/tackle tweener and needs to pack on the weight of he is to move inside.
