2014 College Tackle Rankings

1. Jake Matthews 6'5 305 SR. Texas A&M: Matthews comes from a long line of Matthews who have played and been successful in the NFL. Most notably his Hall of Fame father Bruce Matthews. Matthews played right side this past season allowing #2 pick Luke Joekel to man the left side. This season he'll move to left and I think he'll have no trouble with the transition.

2. Taylor Lewan 6'8 309 SR. Michigan: Lewan might be the best pass protector in this class. He faced Clowney in the bowl game in which he did an excellent job shutting out then consensus #1 player in the 2014 draft. He is athletic but a bit lean and not a physical run blocker but teams will look past that.

3. Cyrus Kouandjio 6'6 311 Jr. Alabama: According to ESPN's Mel Kiper, Kouandjio only allowed 3.5 sacks this past season. He comes from a long heritage of talented Alabama lineman but on tape Warmack still stuck out as their best lineman and he was a guard. Kouandjio is still a sure fire first rounder if he declares.

4. James Hurst 6'7 290 Sr. UNC: Hurst was a very good player for an average Tar Heel team last season. This is again a Butch Davis effect, because he knows how to recruit NFL type players. Hurst is very athletic but a bit lean at 290. If he bulks up some he is a very good blindside protector.

5. Antonio Richardson 6'6 332 Jr. Tennessee: He had a very good game against Georgia in which he shut down Jarvis Jones. But at 332 I see him more like DJ Fluker and playing right tackle next year than left tackle.
